Aromatics Oman LLC has the capacity to produce 1.0 million Tons per year of Aromatics with main products Para Xylene – 817,413 Tons per year and Benzene – 198,441 Tons per year.
The main Aromatics products Para Xylene and Benzene are important raw materials for a wide range of petrochemical intermediaries, which are used to produce a variety of consumer goods.
PARAXYLENE
Para Xylene is primarily used as a basic raw material in the manufacture of Purified Terephthalic acid (PTA) and Di-Methyl-Terephthalate (DMT). The PTA and DMT are used to manufacture Poly-Ethylene Terephthalate (PET) and a variety of Polyesters and Polymers. Polyesters are used to produce yarn, fibers and films. PET bottles are widely used for carbonated beverages because of good carbon dioxide barrier properties. In addition, they are light-weight, shatter-resistant and possess high tensile strength. |

Benzene is a key basic chemical for the manufacture of wide range intermediate products, including Cyclo-Hexane that makes Nylon. Benzene is also used to make Ethyl Benzene Styrene Monomer which is used to manufacture Poly Styrene and Rubber products. Benzene can also be used to make Cumene and Phenol which are used in health care products. Benzene is a basic raw material for Linear Alkyl Benzene which is used to manufacture Soaps and Detergents.
The Aromatics Oman LLC also produces other by-products as Light Straight Run Naphtha – 39,899 Tons per year, LPG – 61,353 tons per year, Raffinate – 150,924 Tons per year and Heavy Aromatic - 29,675 Tons per year.
All these byproducts are widely used either as finished products or as intermediates in Refineries and Petrochemical Industries for further downstream processing or blending purposes.

PROCESS
The Aromatics Complex in consists of main two sections Aromatics Preparation Section; where Straight Run Naphtha feed stock is treated and processed to convert Paraffins and Naphthenes into Aromatics compounds and Aromatics Recovery Section; where the Aromatics – Benzene and Para Xylene are extracted by further processing to maximize the production.
In the Aromatics Preparation Section the naphtha feedstock passes through a hydro-treating stage to remove the impurities like sulphur in two units and heavy naphtha and Light Straight Ruin Naphtha are produced. The Heavy Naphtha again passes through a reforming stage to produce Aromizate which is rich in Aromatics and LPG as by product.
The Reformate provides the feed to the Aromatics Recovery Section of the plant. In the Aromatics Recovery Section the Reformate is further processed to recover Aromatics through extractive distillation, adsorption, Isomerization and Tran alkylation to produce the main products Para Xylene & Benzene and by products Raffinate and Heavy Aromatics. The process units involved in this Aromatics Recovery Section are Morphylane, Xymax, Transplus, and Eluxyl. Axens acts as licensor for all of these technologies.
The attached schematics shows Aromatics Oman LLC process units configurations.
